Keynote Speaker: Rev. Cynthia Park, PhD, LPC

Dr. Park first focused her professional life on practicing the therapeutic skills of cognitive behaviorism, partnering with individuals to change behavior patterns by changing thought processes. After several years in private practice, she entered the ministry and is an ordained Episcopal priest working in parish ministry in Northeast Georgia. This iteration of her vocation has expanded her focus to consider the way in which how we pray shapes what we believe and how our subsequent beliefs influence our compassionate response to the world.

Following her ordination, she completed her PhD in Semitic languages and literatures, studying the way that the historical evolution of Semitic languages through the centuries has worked to produce the sacred texts we use today in our religious traditions. The focus of her dissertation research was the contribution of religious rituals to preserving Judaism during the Babylonian Exile. Her ongoing research focuses on the post-exilic book of Ruth, in particular the blessing scene in the final chapter.

Since 2006, she has been part of the Network of Biblical Storytellers, participating in the Scholars Seminar, the annual Festival Gathering, and serving on the NBS Board in various capacities. At the heart of her research and practice is her love for the story of God and the countless ways that our engagement with this sacred story continues to shape our world.
